Shahwali Basiri, Shah for short, a Hazari refugee from Vardak in Afghanistan, escapes certain death in his country with his family -wife Akimeh, and three children – two strong boys, Mahdi and Hadi, and a beautiful little girl, Lila. They set sail for Australia on the KM Palapa. Little does he know the little fishing boat will take them to the edge of death. But on the fourth day they are rescued by a much bigger boat – the Tampa. Shahwali does not know it yet – but their journey has only just begun. A haunting monologue about the other side of Australia’s refugee “crisis”.
